Background:
In 1997 when I walked into the school library for the first time as an employee, I had owned a computer for only two weeks. I had never heard the term IT. I did bring with me into that school library a love for reading, especially picture books and juvenile literature. I brought a rich work history as a clergy and a counselor in leadership, communication skills, and interpersonal skills. My B.A in Religion had given me a love of logic and systematic thought. My M.Div. had given me a desire to serve others and to seek ways of caring within a community.
Ina few years, I understood networking between three server platforms (Novell, NT, and Domino);I was doing Lotus Notes administration and Domino design. These skills showcased me among my peers as a life-long learner, a problem solver and a seeker of information. They did not showcase me among my peers as a teacher.
My learning experiences at Georgia Southern University have been some of the richest experiences of my educational journey. To learn about learning has become a focus for me. I am most excited that my training has prepared me for a new role as a teacher. I am confident that I have learned the skills and principles necessary to be an effective school library media specialist and look forward to joining a collaborative team of educators providing leadership in information literacy.
