Reflection:
Completing a webpage of resources, a webliography, or a pathfinder for teachers and students enables the teacher and students to effectively use time and resources when working on a project. This pathfinder was published to the creative writing class page of this school. This artifact accompanies a collaborative lesson plan between theLanguage Arts Department and the Media Center. The creative writing blog enables students to meet AASL Standards for the 21st Century Learner: 3.1.4 Use technology and other information tools to organize and display knowledge and understanding in ways that others can view, use and assess, and sub-standards of Standard 4. (4.1.1- 4.1.8) Pursue Personal and Aesthetic growth.
In reflecting on this artifact, I am concerned about limited access. The artifact is published on a specific teacher's web-page. I believe that pathfinders and webliography reference resources need to be published on the media center site. Developing a webliography and publishing on the media center page will become a goal for me as it meets with best practices in the use of information and ideas.. |
. These three issue papers were written in Children's Literature class and reveal a commitment to knowledge about historical and contemporary trends in children's literature and multicultural issues. The School Library Media Specialist must be committed to reading and reviewing materials for the development of the school collection. The weakness of this artifact is that it is specific to children's literature; however, the commitment to the ALA intellectual freedom and access is the same for all age groups. I am committed to building a collection that reflects a diversity of our culture.

One of the ways to assure the tenets of privacy, confidentiality, intellectual property, and intellectual freedom is through the development of library policy. This review of county policy reveals some weakness in these areas and some suggested ways to correct this area. Counties without policies and procedures such as Acceptable Use Policy, Copyright Policy, and even Collection Development policy must be in place to support a School Library Media Specialist. The assessment and evaluation of this document does indicate that our county media centers are flexible in scheduling and provide open access for learners. In our program of study, we completed several policy reviews. I selected this policy review because the perspective of the review was learner centered. If policy is not learner focused it is not meaningful. Best practices in policy assure that learners receive information that is needed to function in a democratic society.

The faculty plan activity completed in Administration gives School Library Media Specialist the chance to evaluate the current physical layout of the learning environment and a chance to dream about the use of the environment in new and creative ways. Also, this artifact reveals knowledge of current laws and issues relating to space in the state of Georgia. The artifact gave me the opportunity to showcase my abilities in using Domino design to create a website project. Returning to the artifact makes me painfully aware of how my current learning environment is not designed for children with special needs. I believe that web design and other tools in 21st century learning can add to the stimulating nature of a total learning environment that extends beyond the physical environment of the Media Center.
