Philosophy
I believe that as a School Library Media Specialist I will have the opportunity to create a welcoming environment where all learners can locate, evaluate, and use information in a variety of formats and for diverse purposes. I believe that it is my task to try to instill a sense of enjoyment in reading and informational literacy to our students. If I am successful, I will empower learners with lifelong skills. I believe I can establish myself has a leader in education by modeling life-long learning. I must be willing not only to teach but to be taught. As an effective leader, I can collaborate with the instructional team to ensure that the media center supports the school philosophy, goals, and curriculum. Developing technologies and the need to document student achievement make it essential that the School Library Media Specialist has a direct connection to the curriculum and the classroom. I believe that the Media Center is essential in the quest for enduring knowledge and that each Media Center must be committed to intellectual freedom and access as detailed by the American Library Association.
